Update

School this semester is going to be.... different. It feels strange being in nursing school and not learning any actual nursing skills anymore. My classes include Nursing Theory, Nursing Research, Health Systems and Policy, and Community Nursing. I will say that I think I am really going to enjoy my Community class. It's going to be a lot of work, but its the kind of nursing I like, so I'm excited! My other classes feel generally useless, although if I look really hard I guess I can see their value. Health Systems and Policy is another way of saying Politics As It Relates to Healthcare. Debates, debates, debates. Lovely. We've had 2 classes and I swear if I hear the term Obamacare one more time I'm going to just scream.
Robbie went back to school this semester as well, and so far he seems to be enjoying it :) He's taking Conservation Biology, Ecology, and Cell Biology. I'm so glad he's liking his classes again. He really hated his semester of O-Chem, and I think that semester off in the fall was a good idea. He's such a smarty pants. I love it when he comes home excited about whatever they were talking about in class that day. Biology is definately the right major for him.

Twas the Night Before Christmas and All Through the House...

...Robbie was sleeping and I was at work. Totally lame. lol. Working on Christmas is enough to make me consider a career change. Christmas day was great though! I came home after work and slept a few hours and we got up and went to my parents'! I heart Christmas morning. My mom makes an absolutely delicious breakfast of sticky buns, cinnamon rolls, and hot chocolate. Definitely my favorite breakfast of the entire year, lol. We had a great day with my family and then I had to go back to work. bleh. Our Christmas was wonderful though! I hope yours was too :)

ps) Yes, I am aware these posts are very out of order. lol

Merry Christmas!

Recap

Happy New Year everyone! The week after Christmas we were able to go to Robbie's parents house to celebrate Christmas and New Years and spend some time with them. We had a great time and miss them already! Oh and in answer to the question I am sure is on your mind... Robbie picked out this obnoxiously awesome party hat and wore it all night long New Years Eve. lol.

Is one nice picture really too much to ask? Silly boys

Rylee loved her New Years hat. I think it made her look like a cute little gnome!

So I went back in my little blog archives and read a couple of my posts from last year. And then I started thinking about what has happened since then. Which has been, well... a lot. Here are some of the highlights- this is in no way chronological:

I got my wisdom teeth out in February, oh so fun.
Robbie hurt his back in May and spent a few months in physical therapy.
We went to Hawaii in June and had an amazing time
I spent 96 hours in an ER for my capstone for nursing school, and decided I don't want to work in an ER EVER.
I was diagnosed with PCOS.
I graduated from nursing school, again.
Robbie took a semester off so that he can like school again!
We celebrated our 4th anniversary this year!
I graduated from nursing school.
Robbie finally gave in and let me get gym passes :)
I finally gave in and read Harry Potter and looooved it
We had too many heartbreaks.
Don't know for sure, but it feels like we ate out more than we ate in this year. Don't judge me, lol.

Not trying to be pessimistic, but I don't think 2010 will be going down as one of the best years ever. Here's hoping 2011 is better :)

Happy 2011 Everyone!

Hello, Winter

I dislike the cold. And I really dislike the snow- especially when it ruins my plans. but in an effort to be positive about it all, here's what I DO like about this time of year!
1. Fuzzy socks
2. Curling up on the couch in a fleece blanket to watch a movie or whatever.
3. Warm drinks! hot chocolate, apple cider... love it :)
4. Interior decor (I can't tell you just how much I love decorating for Christmas
5. Wrapping Christmas presents- shopping is super fun, and I get really excited about surprising people, but I get this silly joy out of wrapping them and making them pretty
6. Cinnamon- stores all seem to smell like cinnamon and I love it!
7. Sweat pants and hoodies
8. It may be 10 degrees outside, but at least I'm not sweating in my air conditioned car anymore
9. Mashed potatoes
10. mmmm.... mashed potatoes....

The ER

I thought after I graduated in December life would get so much easier! Apparently not. I plan to continue on with my BSN, meaning 2 more semesters before I am done forever. But I'll already be an RN, so the hard part should be over, yes? The director of the nursing program came to talk to us last week about what to expect for the next year. Over the two semesters we will have THREE classes that EACH have a 90 HOUR clinical component. Seriously. SERIOUSLY. The first will be in January, the other two in the fall. Awesome! As if I wasn't sick of clinicals already, once I'm an RN I get 270 more hours of fun, following around another RN! Pointless? YES.

Oh, I understand this picture has nothing whatsoever to do with the post. I just like it :)

Speaking of clinicals, I had my first preceptored clinical in the emergency department last weekend. Uncomfortable? Definately. Terrifying? Heck yeah. Here's some of the highlights... I successfully put in an IV (yay me), did a blood draw, gave lots of shots, saw lots and lots of sore throats (whoo hoo), and did compressions in a cardiac arrest!!! I now know from experience just how right people are when they say doing compressions is a workout. I also learned that I am way too short to successfully do compressions for someone laying on a bed while I am standing next to it. I had to climb up on the bed, lol. So yes, I would say my first night in the ER was rather eventful. It was more than enough to scare the heck out of me for the days when I will be in the ER on my own... which is only a few weeks away. Oh and I'd just like to say, when you're not getting paid, 12 hours is a long time.

Because I Need A Break

The more I study pathophysiology, the dumber I feel. And the clearer it is that I will not be doing well on this test. So I'm taking a break for a few minutes! We had family pictures done last week. Here's a few I thought were cute! :)

He still makes me laugh every day :)

Ten years ago today I met the boy of my dreams, and four years ago today I married him :) He's the love of my life and my very best friend... and as cliche as it sounds, everything to me. Happy Anniversary, honey! I love you :)
